Wedding Flowers: Silk vs. Fresh

by Cara Trump

When considering floral arrangements for your wedding, the possibilities with silk and fresh are both endless. It's important to take some things into consideration when choosing between the two.

1. Durability

If you plan to keep your bouquet, silk flowers could be the best choice. A silk bouquet will look the same as it did on your wedding day, no matter how long it is kept. If choosing fresh flowers, drying the petals is a nice way to save your bouquet. But because of the durability of silk flowers, there is no need to worry about petals falling off or sagging.

2. Health Issues

If you or anyone in the wedding party is allergic to flowers, you may want to consider silk. Silk flowers can be scented to smell like real flowers, so you don't have to sacrifice fragrance for functionality.

3. Weather

If you are planning a warm-weather wedding, silk may be the wiser of the two choices. Silk flowers won't wilt or droop in warm weather. Also, silk flowers won't freeze in cold weather.

4. Budget

Although silk flowers may seem like a more sensible choice, a major consideration in choosing flowers is budget. Silk flowers can be just as expensive, if not more so, as fresh flowers. Be sure to ask for all pricing up front, and to know what flowers are included.
